One of the questions I’m often being asked when I’m introducing Windows Live to beginners, is “what is actually Windows Live?”, “Kind of software?”, “A web site?”,…!

The reason I think is most of the people still know Windows Live by Windows Live Messenger! yeah, that’s a fact and I would suggest Microsoft to make best use of it to promote other products directly from Windows Live Messenger, since the number of users is huge!

BTW, getting back to the simplest I can explain is:

Windows Live suite is a combination of software and services. What this means is there are several applications to be installed (individually or as a group) and on the other side, there are several Web services to be used. The very good thing about it is, these two are highly integrated and collaborative. This brings smooth and reliable functionality between the desktop and the cloud which definitely helps us to enjoy various tasks in an easy but stylish way.

As an example, I would mention Windows Live Photos and Windows Live Photo Gallery. The first one (Photos) is actually the Web service I talked about, which will let the users enjoy using 25GB of free space to keep and share their memories in pictures with their friends and families. The second one (Photo Gallery), is the application to be installed on the user’s computer which basically gives certain tools to help the users to manage and modify their pictures offline.

And of course these two could be synched together since they both work with Windows Live ID.
